It can be difficult to know what to say when meeting with fathers in their various roles. Our Caring Dads Conversations Training series brings you 4 short courses that help you develop skills to have conversations with fathers with the number one aim of keeping children (and their mothers) safe.

Session ONE: This session will focus on engaging dads. Think about your first meeting with a dad, what would you say and do? What do you focus on? How can you be empathetic towards fathers and their situations and open conversations about ways that they may have behaved in ways that were harmful to others in their family? What does it take to ensure the dad will come back for a second meeting?

Session TWO: This session with focus on how to talk to dads about their relationship with their children as well as other important people in their children’s lives. It's about helping fathers connect the dots between valuing their children and supporting their children’s mothers. This session is about helping fathers explore “what does this look like through your children’s eyes? ”

Session THREE: This session will focus on how to talk to dads about their harmful behaviours and feel confident to communicate the concerns with dads, all while keeping them engaged. It’s the skills needed to join with men to amplify their concern about their own behaviours and relationships and then use men’s own motivation to facilitate change.

Session FOUR: This session focuses on what to do when you can’t seem to get anywhere with a father. He is engaged but seems very stuck in harmful ways of thinking and behaving. Now what? How do you think about the level of risk that he might pose to his family, about sharing information, and about collaborating with other professionals involved with his family?
